Match Preview

It has been an excellent first half to the season for Tottenham Hotspur, but their progression this term will be judged on whether they are able to end their long wait to win a major piece of silverware. Spurs boast an excellent record in the FA Cup against Burnley, having won five of the last seven ties between the sides. That includes a victory in their latest showdown in 2014-15.

Burnley have a poor overall record against Spurs, as they have suffered ten defeats in their last eleven away matches against Tottenham. Their only win in the last 12 showdowns between the sides was achieved in the League Cup in January 1983.

Tottenham could be very challenging to oppose this weekend, as they have excelled in the third round of the competition. Spurs have progressed from 16 of their last 17 third round ties, with their only defeat over that sequence coming against Arsenal in 2013-14. Heung Min Son could be a player worth considering this weekend, as he has been involved in 25 goals in 28 appearances in the competition.

Burnley have been involved in high scoring clashes against Premier League opposition in the FA Cup, with an average of 4.7 goals being scored in their last six matches. However, the Clarets have scored just nine goals, and have allowed 19 efforts across that period.

Tottenham vs Burnley Prediction

Tottenham’s record in the third round of the FA Cup is extremely encouraging coming into the weekend, and we expect them to have few issues in booking their spot in the next round of the competition.
