Match Preview

There are few more intense rivalries in English soccer than West Brom and Wolves. The Black Country rivals haven’t collided since a draw was played out between the sides in 2021, but this weekend’s meeting will be the first in front of fans in over ten years. Wolves will come into this showdown as the clear favorites, but their record at The Hawthorns would be a pressing concern.

The Premier League visitors are winless at their rivals since claiming a 4-2 success at West Brom in 1996. Since that win, West Brom are unbeaten in ten clashes between the sides at the Hawthorns. West Brom’s recent record against Wolves is also very impressive after winning three of the last four. That includes a 5-1 success at Molineux in February 2012.

However, Wolves will have the pressure on them this weekend, as they are the higher ranked side in the English pyramid. Wolves have also shown excellent form in recent months after going six matches across all competitions without defeat. In the previous round, they outlasted Brentford to land a 3-2 success in a replay.

West Brom’s home record under Carlos Corberan has been one of their big strengths in their push for a playoff finish this term. They have won nine of their 14 matches at the Hawthorns this year, losing on just two occasions. But, a response will be needed after suffering a 2-0 loss on the road against Norwich in their previous match.

West Brom vs Wolves Prediction

The Hawthorns will be bouncing in the FA Cup against Wolves on Sunday, and the Baggies excellent home record against their rivals could be a key trend to consider. However, a draw could be an interesting betting angle, as Wolves have shown throughout the season how difficult they can be to beat.
