It hasn’t been the first half to the season that Man United would have been hoping for, as they are already in a race to finish in a European position this term. However, success in the FA Cup could ease the pressure on Erik ten Hag this term. United and Wigan have only clashed in the competition on one previous occasion, with the Red Devils landing a 4-0 success in 2016-17.
The Red Devils boast a very dominant record against the Latics, winning 18 of the 19 previous meetings between the sides. Their only loss against Wigan came in the form of a 1-0 defeat at the DW Stadium in the Premier League in April 2012.

However, there are a few trends that support Wigan’s chances this week. Among those is the fact that they have progressed against Premier League opposition more times since their relegation from the top-flight than any other side from outside the division. Meanwhile, they famously beat Man City 1-0 in the competition in February 2018, which maintained their record of having won all five matches that they have played on a Monday in the FA Cup.
Meanwhile, United have been knocked out in the third round of the competition on just two occasions in the last 38 seasons. Interestingly, both of their defeats at this stage have been suffered at Old Trafford, with the most recent coming against Swansea in 2014.
