Game Preview
Galaxy was better than Seattle Sounders in the West finals, though they’ve paid a huge price for that victory. Their top star and one of the guys who should be in the MLS MVP conversation, Riqui Puig, tore his ACL and won’t be able to play in the finals.
Puig led the way for the Galaxy this year, scoring 17 goals and 20 assists while playing 36 matches. He played through an injury in the second half and managed to set up a goal for Dejan Joveljic five minutes before the end, for 1-0 and a win.
The New York Red Bulls were written off before the playoffs due to their terrible form at the time. The team from the Big Apple rose to the occasion, turning the tables after the opening loss in the MLS playoffs and fighting its way through the finals.
In the previous four games, which they’ve all won, the Red Bulls have kept three clean sheets, and that’s mostly because of the Paraguayan goalkeeper Carlos Coronel, who made 18 saves in these three events.
