Game Preview
Houston Dynamo FC has been great in 2023, even though not many pundits expected them to do great this season. They finished the regular season in the No. 4 spot in the Western Conference with a 14-9-11 record, which accounts for 51 points.
What’s interesting is that they won 37 of those points at home. At Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, they were 11-4-2 in the regular season. In the 2023 postseason, they’ve played twice at home, each time against Real Salt Lake.
They won the first game 2-1, while their second duel in Houston was decided by a penalty shootout, which they won, after a 1-1 draw in regulation. Now, they’re welcoming Sporting Kansas City, a team that’s been doing okay on the road lately.
These guys weren’t too impressive in away matches in the regular season, but in their first (and so far, only) away game of the 2023 MLS Playoffs, they did great. They defeated St. Louis City 4-1 at CITYPARK, which was St. Louis’s heaviest defeat on home turf.
