Both LAFC and Colorado Rapids spent only a short time in the 2023 Leagues Cup. The Rapids lost both of their group-stage games, so they weren’t able to advance to the knockout stage. Meanwhile, being the current MLS champion, LAFC started its Leagues Cup campaign in the knockout phase.
After demolishing Juarez 7-0, and beating Real Salt Lake 4-0, the boys from California lost to Monterrey 3-2 in the quarterfinal. It was a soul-crushing defeat as LAFC had a 2-0 lead at halftime. Still, there’s a silver lining – the loss meant that they’re going to have more time to prepare for the return of the 2023 MLS.
