Match Preview
The final round of matches in Nations League Group B2 will be staged on Sunday, as England host Ireland, and Greece take on Finland. England have seized control of top spot, and can gain automatic promotion to the top tier of the competition with victory at Wembley this weekend.
The Three Lions travelled to Athens in midweek aware that only a two-goal victory would see them move ahead of Greece in the standings. Carsley made brave changes, the most notable including Ollie Watkins playing ahead of Harry Kane.
That decision was immediately vindicated, with the Aston Villa striker netting within the opening seven minutes. A moment of magic from Jude Bellingham contributed to the second goal in the 77th minute, before Curtis Jones netted a superb third with seven minutes remaining.

Ireland have found wins hard to come by against England since the 1980s, having failed to win in their last six. This year’s Nations League has been a mixed bag, but they have avoided finishing bottom of the standings after winning both of their matches against Finland.
Their latest success was secured against their direct opponents, with Evan Ferguson finding the back of the net for the Irish in the opening 45 minutes. However, Ireland can finish no higher than third in the standings.
It was a much better display by Ireland in Dublin, as they limited their opponents to just five shots on target. This weekend’s clash represents a step up in opposition, but their pace on the counter-attack could pose questions of England.
England vs. Ireland Picks
England will have top spot in their sights this weekend, as they will be aware that a victory will secure their promotion. It is hard to overlook the Three Lions and they could be set to put on a show in their final match of 2024.
