Match Preview
It is a week that Aston Villa fans have been dreaming of for an extended period, as the Midlands club make their return to the Champions League on Tuesday. However, before the focus switches to European action, the Villa will be looking to record a third win in four league matches when they welcome Everton.
The Toffees have endured a miserable start to the new campaign after suffering defeats in each of their opening three matches. That run of form leaves them sitting bottom of the standings, while the scale of their issues was evident before the international break after throwing a 2-0 lead away in the final five minutes against Bournemouth.

Since returning to the top-flight in 2019, the Villa have gone ten without defeat against the Toffees, keeping clean sheets in seven of the previous encounters. Meanwhile, Everton have suffered defeats in four of their last five trips to Villa Park. That came after winning on three of their four visits to the Midlands prior to Villa’s return to the Premier League.
However, home issues have been a problem for Villa. Since their 15-match winning run was ended in December 2023, the Midlands side have won just four of their last 12 matches at Villa Park. Meanwhile, Everton are looking to avoid their longest losing sequence to start a new Premier League season since 1958-59.
Aston Villa vs Everton Picks
We could see a shock result at Villa Park on Saturday. Villa’s attention will be on their Champions League opener on Tuesday, meaning that a chance is taken on Everton to claim a narrow 1-0 success on the road.
