Match Preview
Man City’s poor run of form has shown no signs of ending in recent weeks, as Pep Guardiola’s side lost more ground in the title race after losing 2-1 at home to Man United on Sunday.
Few could have foreseen that outcome after City went into a first-half lead, but they continued to offer Man United hope, which ultimately cost them the chance of claiming any points against their biggest rivals. City were ahead after 88 minutes, but the defeat means that they are the first defending champions to have thrown away that advantage so late into a match.
It also marked the second time in 2024 that the team leading the Manchester derby at the break had suffered defeat in the match.

Aston Villa would have also been disappointed with their most recent outing in the Premier League after throwing away a one-goal lead in the final five minutes. It was the latest that Forest had come back from behind to win a match, as they were 1-0 down after 86 minutes.
Jhon Duran continued his excellent scoring form with Villa’s opening goal in the ultimate defeat. It was his fifth straight goal in as many starts for the West Midlands side.
Man City were beaten in this exact fixture last season, suffering a 1-0 defeat at Villa Park in December 2023. That was the first loss City had suffered against the Villa since September 2013. But, both of Villa’s wins against City since the start of the 2012-13 season have been achieved at Ville Park.
