Match Preview
Everton endured a nervy end to the previous campaign, as their top-flight status was in peril heading into the final day of the season. However, Sean Dyche’s side was able to maintain their Premier League status with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth. The Toffees will be keen to avoid another fight at the end of the season, especially considering that they will be looking forward to moving into their new stadium next season.
Everton actually boasts an impressive record on the opening day of the season, as they have lost just once in their previous eleven seasons. However, that loss did come at the start of the previous campaign. Interestingly, Everton have played out more draws on the opening day of the season than any other side in the Premier League.

Fulham would have been incredibly pleased with their return to the Premier League, as they finished tenth in the standings. It has been an important summer for the club, as they have managed to keep hold of both Marco Silva and Aleksandar Mitrovic, despite interest from Saudi Arabia. However, the long-term future of the latter may yet be determined over the final weeks of the transfer window.
As a non-newly promoted club, Fulham are unbeaten in their opening match of the Premier League season in each of the previous five campaigns. Furthermore, they have kept clean sheets in all matches over that period. The Cottagers have also lost just once in their previous five Premier League matches against Everton.

In fairness, I don’t expect this to be the most thrilling match of the weekend. Draws have been a common result for Everton on the opening day, and that could be a trend worth following. Meanwhile, under 2.5 goals looks like a solid play at Goodison Park.
