Event Preview

For just the fourth time in Premier League history, all newly promoted sides to the top-flight managed to secure their status in the highest English division last term. The feat has become somewhat more achievable in recent seasons, with three of the occasions coming since the start of the 2011-12 season.

Luton Town are expected to struggle when they return to the Premier League, but they have a clear identity that could cause issues for other teams in the top-flight. They have surged up through the divisions, becoming the first team in English soccer history to have played top-flight soccer before being relegated to the fifth tier only to return. Their home form will be key to their chances, as they will need to make Kenilworth Road a fortress.

Burnley and Sheffield United look the most well-suited to retaining their top-flight title, as the sides were considerably the best in the second tier last term. The Blades will be looking to bounce back after being relegated back to the second tier during the COVID-hit 2020-21 season. However, we could see the Blades facing more issues than the Clarets, as they could have issues scoring goals.

Well-run teams often survive in the Premier League, evident from the fact that Leicester, Leeds, and Southampton fell into the Championship last season. Bournemouth could be a value angle to suffer relegation, as Gary O’Neill was rewarded after achieving the somewhat miracle challenge of keeping the Cherries in the top-flight by being removed. The decision to bring in Andoni Iraola could spectacularly backfire.

Everton should be better than they were last term, while Nottingham Forest could also kick on. We expect Fulham to drop back toward the bottom, while Wolves could also struggle after losing Ruben Neves. Julen Lopetegui’s side will also need to balance their finances before making moves in the summer transfer market.

Premier League Relegation Prediction

We expect Luton to struggle, but we could see them just about avoiding relegation. The lack of goals that the Blades boast is a huge concern, while Bournemouth could be a solid selection. Meanwhile, we will also be siding with Wolves to suffer relegation after just about surviving last term. They will have limited success in the transfer market, meaning that they will struggle to replace the top-class stars that have departed the club.
