Match Preview
There will be pressure on Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham side as they return to Premier League action for the first time in 2025 on Saturday. Spurs come into the first round of matches of the new calendar year sitting eleventh in the standings, and they are already eleven points adrift of the Champions League spots.
Tottenham have failed to win in their last three matches, and they have collected just one victory from their last five in the English top-flight. Spurs frustrations were evident once again in their previous match, as Tottenham squandered an advantage before playing out a draw against Wolves.
It is a completely different story for Newcastle at present, as the Magpies come into this round of matches sitting fifth in the Premier League standings. Newcastle have won each of their last four, and a fifth straight win on Saturday could see them end the weekend inside the Champions League spots.

Tottenham have won two of their last three home matches against the Magpies, which strikes a solid return to form in this fixture after winning just two of their seven home matches before the start of this sequence. However, Newcastle have won four of their last five against Tottenham.
Newcastle will be chasing some history this weekend, as they chase a third double in the last four seasons against Spurs. It should at least be an entertaining fixture, as this is the most played fixture in Premier League history that is yet to see a 0-0 draw.
Tottenham vs. Newcastle Picks
Defensive injuries are once again plaguing Tottenham’s progression at this stage of the season, and Newcastle’s excellent head-to-head record against Spurs is well worth considering ahead of making predictions this weekend. For that reason, we like the chances of an away win on Saturday.
