Event Preview

France would have been regarded as the team to beat in the Nations League when the final eight teams were determined. However, they will have a huge challenge on their hands to reach the last four of the competition following defeat in Croatia.

Croatia were excellent in the first leg between the nations, and they took the lead early in the first half following Ante Budimir’s effort. Their chances of victory were enhanced before the half-time break after Ivan Perisic added a second goal on the stroke of the referee’s whistle.

Croatia’s experience at the highest level of the game was apparent in the second half, as they were able to control the game despite having less of the ball. France registered a total of 16 shots from the 62% of the possession, but they could muster just six on target.

Croatia have now recorded wins in each of their last two internationals against France, with both wins coming in the UEFA Nations League. France have still won three of the last six meetings, but their only win by a three-goal margin was recorded in November 1999.

France vs. Croatia Picks

Croatia’s excellent recent record against France deserves huge respect ahead of this second leg, while they were winners on the road against their opponents on their last trip. However, France remain the obvious play to win in 90 minutes, but they may not get the result that is required to reach the finals.
