Match Preview
The Netherlands will come into the Nations League finals as one of the key contenders to win the tournament this year. It will be the second time that the Dutch have competed in the final four of the tournament, as they were losing finalists in the 2019 edition held in Portugal. However, they will have home advantage in this year’s event as they look to go one better.
The Dutch have endured mixed fortunes since exiting the 2022 World Cup on penalties in December. They have won once and lost once in two internationals, with their only defeat coming in the form of a 4-0 drubbing in Paris against France. However, the Netherlands responded to that setback with a 3-0 home success over Gibraltar. But, they will need to raise their performance standards once again against Croatia.

Croatia will be making their debut in the Nations League finals this week, as they search for a major piece of silverware at the last attempt for their golden generation. The nation surpassed all expectations in Qatar, as they reached the semi-final stage before being eliminated by Argentina. However, they did end the tournament in third after beating Morocco 2-1.
Since then, they have won once from two international fixtures, with their only win coming in their most recent match against Turkey. That was a very strong display on the road, as Mateo Kovacic scored twice in the opening 45 minutes to seal a dramatic win.
Netherlands vs Croatia Prediction
Interestingly, this will only be the third showdown between these nations. Croatia won the first clash in 1998, before the Dutch landed a huge 3-0 win in the most recent clash in 2008. I find it challenging to side with the Dutch based on their performances in the opening round of EURO qualifiers, which means a chance will be taken on the experienced Croatia.
