Match Preview
The dreams of the host nation remain in tact at this stage of the competition, as Australia remain in the hunt for the top prize in the women’s game. Australia were slow starters in the group stage, as they edged past Ireland in their opening match, before falling to defeat against Nigeria. However, they have been excellent since that defeat, and responded with a 4-0 win over Canada.
The Aussies were very professional in the previous round, as they landed a 2-0 win over Denmark. Caitlin Foord opened the scoring, before Hayley Raso extended the advantage with 20 minutes remaining. Importantly from their perspective, Sam Kerr also got minutes on the pitch for the first time at the tournament.

France have also grown into the competition as it has progressed, as they bounced back following a disappointing 0-0 draw against Jamaica in their opening match with a 2-1 win over Brazil. They ended the opening stage at the top of Group F following a 6-3 win over Panama.
The French were very professional in the round of 16, as they eased to a 4-0 success against Morocco. Eugenie Le Sommer scored twice in that win, while Kenza Dali and Kaddiatou Diani also found the net. They have now scored 12 goals at the competition this year, which is the most that they have managed in a single edition of the Women’s World Cup.
Australia vs France Prediction
This will be the first competitive meeting between the sides, but Australia did land a 1-0 win over their rivals in July. However, we expect the French to overcome this first big challenge and reach the final four to end the dreams of the host nation.
