The race for qualification in Group G at the Women’s World Cup promises to be fascinating. However, Italy and Argentina appear to be the biggest threats to Sweden for top spot, and the winner of this opening night match up could put themselves into a strong position for a place in the next round of the tournament.
Italy appear to be back on track in the women’s game, as they ended a 20-year absence from the World Cup in 2019. The nation enjoyed an excellent run in France, as they made it through to the quarterfinals, winning three of their five matches. However, they were unable to build on that display at the EUROs last year, as they were knocked out in the group stage.

Argentina will be playing at their second straight World Cup this summer, but they are still searching for a first victory at the competition. However, they could be a nation worth considering this summer, as they come into the tournament in fine recent form. Argentina has won five of their previous six internationals in 2023, which includes wins over New Zealand, Chile, and Peru.
