Match Preview

The Netherlands upset the odds in Group E, as they were able to out-perform the United States to seal top spot. That has completely opened up the knockout stage, as many believed that the USWNT would be in this half of the draw. However, the Netherlands was excellent across their three matches in the group stage, as they recorded wins against Portugal and Vietnam, while a draw against the United States was also a solid performance.

The Netherlands boast an excellent recent record in tournaments, as they won the 2017 EUROs, and reached the final at the previous edition of the Women’s World Cup. Their only defeat in 2019 came in the showpiece against the United States, but they have only scored two fewer goals already than they managed in the entirety of their run to the final four years ago.

South Africa is the surprise nation in the knockout stage at the Women’s World Cup this year, as they rose from fourth place to second on the final matchday in Group G. The African nation needed a win over Italy in their final match, and that was secured in dramatic fashion following Thembi Kgatlana’s winner in the 92nd minute.

That was their first ever win at the Women’s World Cup, and they have already achieved their best-ever performance at the competition. But, their win over Italy was their first victory over a European nation at their fourth attempt, and they have been far too open already at the competition this summer after allowing six goals in three matches.

Netherlands vs South Africa Prediction

The Netherlands will need to give South Africa respect, as the nation is capable of a shock result, and that was evident after they pushed Sweden all the way in their opening match. However, it is incredibly challenging to bet against the in-form Dutch on Saturday.
