Match Preview
There will be pressure on the USWNT as the round off their matches in Group E at the Women’s World Cup on Tuesday morning. The United States could only play out a draw in their rematch from the 2019 final against the Netherlands. They were slightly fortunate to rescue a point on matchday two, with Lindsey Horan netting the equalizer with just under half an hour remaining.
That result means that the USA’s record 13-match winning streak has now come to an end. However, they have still gone a record 19 matches without suffering defeat in the competition. The Dutch opener also saw the USA go behind in a match for the first time at the World Cup since their quarterfinal against Brazil in 2011.

The U.S. will likely be in direct competition with the Netherlands for top spot, with the Dutch needing to win by two more goals than their rivals to secure a memorable finish above the reigning champions. However, Portugal could yet get involved in the battle for a place in the top two.
A victory over Vietnam in their second group stage match would see them sit just a point behind the top two teams in the standings. However, the odds are certainly stacked against Portugal to overcome the U.S. challenge, as they bid to qualify from their World Cup group in their debut showing at the tournament.
Portugal vs USWNT Prediction
There needs to be a response from the USWNT following their disappointing performance against the Netherlands. We fully expect them to land victory, but they may ultimately have to settle for second spot, as the Dutch look capable of registering a huge win over Vietnam.
