The progression of the Spanish Women’s National side will be put to the ultimate test this summer, as they look to kick on following an impressive display at last summer’s EUROs. Spain qualified for the tournament as group winners, as they were one of just two teams that didn’t concede a single goal when booking their spot at the World Cup this term after registering eight successive wins.
However, their record at the World Cup is extremely poor. They have won just once in their seven matches at the competition. Over that period, they have lost four times, and have picked up just two draws. However, they have certainly been among the most improved nations in the world of women’s soccer in recent years.

Costa Rica will be making just their second appearance at the World Cup, with their previous appearance coming in 2015. On that occasion, they held Spain to a 1-1 draw in the opening round of matches, before holding South Korea and losing to Brazil. But, it’s hard to overlook their extremely poor form this calendar year, as they have landed just one win in nine international matches.
Their only win during that period was a 2-0 success over Haiti. However, they warmed up for the World Cup with a really disappointing effort against South Korea on July 15, as they were easily beaten 2-0 by South Africa.
