Match Preview
New Zealand will be looking to rescue their Women’s World Cup campaign on Sunday, as they bid to reach the round of 16. However, only a victory will do for the host nation this weekend, and they face a daunting challenge against a Swiss side that has looked strong in their opening two matches. New Zealand wasn’t able to back up their opening night win over Norway in their previous match, as they were edged out by the Philippines.
That was a shock defeat for the host nation, but they struggled in the final third throughout the second period. Despite attempting 16 shots, they managed just four shots on target against the minnows. The defeat also made unwanted history for New Zealand, as they became just the third host nation to suffer a defeat in the group stage of their home competition.

Switzerland have looked strong throughout their opening two matches at the Women’s World Cup, and they currently sit top of the standings. They are the only nation in the group yet to suffer a defeat, but they will likely need to show more in the final third this weekend after settling for a 0-0 draw against Norway in their second group stage match in midweek.
However, the Swiss will take confidence from the fact that they have now managed to keep clean sheets in each of their previous two matches. That is a huge improvement after failing to keep a clean sheet in each of their four opening matches at the tournament.
Switzerland vs New Zealand Prediction
New Zealand haven’t been able to build on their opening night win over Norway, and they looked extremely short in the final third in their previous match. Therefore, we will be siding with the Swiss to land a huge victory to top Group A on Sunday.
