Event Preview

The pressure will step up on the nations in South American World Cup qualification this week, as important battles for points are staged across the continent. Brazil are one of a number of nations that have made poor starts to the campaign after winning just five of their opening 12 matches.

However, their recent form has been more consistent after going four without defeat. But, it should also be noted that they have been held to draws in each of their last two matches.

Their most recent outing came in Venezuela, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by their rivals. Raphinha produced the only moment of magic for Brazil, but the nation lacked the quality in the final third to gain the win.

Colombia come into this away qualifier sitting a place and a point higher than Brazil in the standings. The South American nation have won five of their 12 qualifying matches to this point, and they have suffered just three defeats.

However, it is worth noting that all of their losses in qualifying have come across their last four. Furthermore, Colombia have suffered defeats in each of their previous two.

Their most recent loss was suffered in November, as they were edged out by Ecuador. Despite playing against ten men for an hour, Colombia lacked the clinical nature required against quality teams to find the back of the net.

Brazil vs. Colombia Picks

Brazil have looked better in recent months without reaching their highest level of form. Colombia’s issues in the final third are hard to ignore this week, meaning that the preference is for the Brazilians to claim a home victory.
