One of the most exciting events over the Christmas period finally gets underway on December 15, as the PDC World Darts Championship is staged at Alexandra Palace. The world’s best will be in action throughout the tournament, with the outright champion crowned on January 3. Michael Smith won a gripping final in 2023 against Michael van Gerwen, which included one of the greatest legs of darts that we have ever seen.
Luke Humphries has emerged as one of the standout players on the darts tour throughout 2023, and that has seen his price tumble for World Championship glory. The English star has already won three major titles this calendar year, but the World Darts Championship is unchartered territory for the 28-year-old. However, he has reached the quarterfinal stage on three occasions since 2019, and his recent form is increasingly difficult to overlook.

Michael van Gerwen could offer value for the event this year, as the Dutchman typically comes into the tournament as the clear favorite. Van Gerwen is a three-time winner of the PDC World Darts Championship, and he has reached the final in two of the previous four editions. His form is solid after already winning the World Series of Darts Finals and Premier League Darts already in 2023.
Michael Smith is the defending champion this year after landing a first title in 2023 after suffering a final heartbreak in 2022. However, no defending champion has successfully retained the top prize in darts since Gary Anderson in 2016. Gerwyn Price could also be a solid contender, as the Welshman searches for a second time in four years. But, his only win in 2023 was picked up at the PDC World Cup of Darts.

We will be taking two players at bigger prices this year. Rob Cross won the World Championship in 2018, but his form has stuttered since then. However, he has looked back to his best so far this year after reaching two finals and two quarterfinals. Stephen Bunting is also a fascinating contender, as the two-time World Masters champion has reached the last eight of the World Championships in two of the last three years.
