Match Preview

England will have the pressure on their shoulders when the third test gets underway in Leeds on Thursday, as the hosts must claim victory to stand any chance of regaining The Ashes this year. There was drama throughout the second Test at Lord’s, but England had only themselves to blame as they fell 2-0 behind.

The hosts weren’t able to take advantage of favorable bowling conditions in the opening innings, as they allowed Australia to score 416. England hit 325 in response, before a betting bowling display in the second innings saw England chase 371.

Home fans dared to dream that the improbable target could be reached, as Ben Stokes led his team with 155 from just 214 balls. Ben Duckett was also in excellent form, as he scored 83. However, when the captain was dismissed, England always looked to be struggling to reach the target required.

There was a controversial moment when Johnny Bairstow was run out, as he left his crease believing the ball was dead. That was the big turning point in the second test, with the Aussies eventually securing victory by 43 runs with Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc both taking three wickets apiece.

The Ashes 3rd Test Prediction

Nathan Lyon’s will be missing for the remainder of the series, and England need to take full advantage in Leeds. Headingley is a wicket that could really suit the hosts and their style of play, but they will need to be perfect to see off an in-form Australia. A chance will be taken on England to reignite their Ashes dreams.
