Event Preview
There is less than a month to go before the opening major of the golf season, meaning this weekend’s Houston Open will give players an opportunity to build momentum.
This weekend’s event will be staged at the Memorial Park Golf Course, which will see the field cover a total distance of 7,432 yards. A purse of $9.5 million has been made available at the stroke play competition, which is a par 70. Vijay Singh holds the par record at the event after finishing 22-under when claiming success in 2002.
Scottie Scheffler will be the top selection based on the odds. The American will be looking to build momentum after some underperforming outings. However, he has an excellent record at the Houston Open after finishing second on two separate occasions.

Rory McIlroy has been in red-hot form so far this season, and he could be a solid chance to continue that winning sequence. The star has already won twice on the PGA Tour in 2025, and that ensures that he leads the standings in the FedEx Cup rankings.
Aaron Rai is a player that is also worth considering after making the cut on all three previous appearances at the Houston Open. J.J. Spaun is also a solid chance this weekend after finishing in a tie for second on his latest start. He also has previous experience at the event, as this will be his third start at Memorial Park.
Houston Open Picks
A chance could be taken on Tony Finau this weekend. His form this season has been indifferent, but the Memorial course is where he typically comes alive. He was a winner here in 2023, and was an excellent second 12 months ago.
